Are you having to stable your horse during the day in this hot weather? We’d love a few more trees in our paddocks for shade, but unfortunately ours are having to make to do with being indoors to escape the heat and the flies.

Anyone else’s ponies looking a bit tubby? It’s definitely time to cut on down the green stuff over here, but restricted grass doesn’t have to mean restricted grazing! Could our hay feeders make life a little more enjoyable for your pony and a bit easier for you this summer?

Some good advice here from Loch Leven Equine Practice. There’s a much higher chance of a good recovery if you spot the signs before obvious lameness shows up and react accordingly. Obviously even better would be to manage diet and lifestyle appropriately and avoid the problem altogether.

Most of you with Laminitis prone ponies will be aware of the dangers when turning out on frosty grass, but did you know that if the temperature has dropped to below 6 degrees overnight that the same risk applies even when there isn’t a frost?
